The London Borough of Islington council asked Tor to conduct a full site survey at Bevin Court to assess the existing substrates in the communal areas. The principal criteria was to achieve a Class 0 fire performance on internal paint surfaces, but due to the special significance of the building, it was specified that the upgrade should also include the original colours used by the architect when it was first built.
Tor Coatings provided a specification that would upgrade the surfaces with their Torrex Fire Upgrade System in eggshell, offering a Class 0 fire performance. This coating protects against rapid spread of flame and provides a tough, hard wearing surface. In addition to this, Tor matched the original colours to ensure the finish was in the required historical colours.
The Torrex system was professionally applied by Barry Stewart & Sons Ltd, who are a trained Tor Partner. The main contractor for the refurbishment project at Bevin Court was Breyer Group PLC. Throughout the contract and installation process, Tor Coatings worked within the guidelines set out by English Heritage.
The client received a detailed document with care and protection instructions to maximise the life cycle of the system, plus the option to benefit from our range of comprehensive guarantees.
